Responsible for the care and education of a group of children as part of a teaching team. Provide preschool aged children with a nurturing, safe and healthy environment and individualized learning experiences to help them develop socially, intellectually, physically and emotionally in achieving social competency. Plan and implement the Education Component objectives of the Head Start Performance Standards. Provide a balance between quiet and active learning activities. Help children gain independence and autonomy in eating, toileting, dressing and hygiene through age appropriate and manageable tasks. Develop activities and strategies to engage parents in the educational aspects of the program in order to improve their understanding of child development and facilitate their role as the principal influence in their child’s education and development. Participate in a minimum of two home visits and three parent/teacher conferences per family per year. Attend meetings as necessary. Perform other related duties as assigned from time to time.

Minimum of an Associate’s degree in Early Childhood Education or a related field, with nine months of relevant experience required. Must be EEC Preschool Teacher qualified. Degree in related field requires a minimum of six courses related to early childhood education that focus on child development, early childhood education and curriculum, early childhood teaching and assessment, psychology, family development, health and physical development, mathematics, science or children’s literature. Bilingual in a language spoken by families served by ABCD preferred. Good interpersonal skills required. Must be able to work cooperatively as a member of a teaching team, with program staff and with parents. Ability to maintain confidentiality and work in a professional manner required. Must be able to engage in physical activities while attending to the needs of the center’s preschool children and/or while moving classroom equipment. Must be able to work sensitively and effectively with individuals of diverse educational, socio-economic and cultural backgrounds.

 Please note: there are forty-three (43) week school year positions and fifty-two (52) week positions available.
