Establish and maintain contact with service providers in abuse prevention, parenting education and basic needs to enhance services at an assigned Head Start center serving preschoolers or Early Head Start center serving infants/toddlers. Assist in recruitment, presentations, public relations, public service announcements, and distribution of program information to ensure full enrollment of eligible families. Identify and collaborate with local community agencies to develop a network for advocacy, referrals and services. Train and supervise Family Advocates, ERSEA Specialists and interns. Research current materials in the field to support direct service staff. Provide information, referrals and other efforts to link staff and families with the appropriate community resources. Provide support for and facilitate preventative activities for staff and parents that promote mental health and well being. Provide information relative to Head Start health and nutrition requirements, and support families in completing vaccination and physical, dental and nutrition screenings. Perform other related duties as assigned from time to time.
Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in social services, human services, Early Childhood or related field with two years of experience working with children/families in a human service or related setting required. Ability to develop, implement, monitor and evaluate individual family service plans required. Must have keyboarding and computer skills in various applications such as database, word processing, e-mail and internet. Knowledge of neighborhoods served by the program and relevant city-wide services required. Must be able to participate in community activities, training, and night meetings as needed. Frequent traveling for home visits and off-site trainings required. Must be able to regularly kneel, bend, sit on the floor, and lift and move infant to preschool age children in order to attend to their needs. Excellent interpersonal and written and verbal communication skills required. Bilingual skills and the ability to translate as necessary preferred. Must be able to work sensitively and effectively with individuals of diverse educational, socio-economic and cultural backgrounds.
