Provide individualized and group instruction to over-age, under-credited youth with varying degrees of learning disabilities, skills gaps, and interruptions in their education. Act as the liaison to UHS and Boston Public Schools for all Special Education, 504 and Behavioral Interventions services. Design lesson plans and objectives using competency based framework that is linked to Common Core and Power Standards. Collect, analyze, and track UHS achievement diagnostic data. Participate in and facilitate after-school co-curricular activities as needed. Work closely with counselors for behavior management. Perform other related duties as assigned from time to time.
Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in education or related field and one to three years previous teaching experience required. Master’s in education or related field preferred. Special Education and SEI certifications required. Ability to obtain a teacher certification in content area (Math, English, Science, or History) after six month of employment required. Teaching experience in an alternative high school setting preferred. Must have experience using technology in the classroom and computer proficiency. Must demonstrate cultural proficiency and use of effective and culturally relevant instructional practices. Must be able to work sensitively and effectively with individuals of diverse educational, socio-economic and cultural backgrounds.
