Responsible for assisting the Teacher and/or Lead Teacher with instructional activities to ensure that children with disabilities are successfully included into the regular education classroom. Provide children with a safe, nurturing, individualized environment and the varied experiences, which help them develop socially, intellectually, physically, and emotionally in a manner appropriate to their age and stage of development. Facilitate peer interaction. Implements Individual Education Plan (IEP) goals and communicate in an integrated setting. Assist in planning and preparing the learning environment and implementing the daily program under the direction of the Teacher. Carry out health and safety protocols, maintain confidentiality, and serve as a resource person to the teaching and disabilities team. Perform other related duties as assigned from time to time.
This is an entry level position into the child development component of the ABCD Head Start Program. Minimum of a high school diploma/GED required. Interest in and experience with young children. The ability to read and write English. Must have good interpersonal skills and be willing to work cooperatively as a member of a teaching team. Must be able to lift and move preschool and infant/toddler age children, and attend to the needs of children with disabilities, including physically challenged children. Must be organized and flexible and possess ability to follow directions. Knowledge of and sensitivity to the educational and socioeconomic needs of children and families served by the Head Start or Early Head Start Center. Must be able to work sensitively and effectively with individuals of diverse educational, socio-economic, and cultural backgrounds.
Please note: These are fifty-two week (52) positions that are part-time for twenty-five (25) hours per week
