Plan, develop and manage the education services at the local Head Start center. Ensure all education component activities are in accordance with federal, state and program laws, regulations, standards and policies. Supervise and support teaching staff in providing preschool children with individualized learning experiences to help them develop socially, intellectually, physically and emotionally in achieving social competency. Develop strategies to involve parents as the main influence in their children’s education and development. Ensure the integration of educational aspects of the various Head Start components by supervising the development of opportunities and activities for children to learn about health, safety, nutrition, dental health and families. Conduct classroom observations using appropriate tools to monitor teacher-child interactions, curriculum implementation, health and safety, mealtime routines and classroom management. Coordinate the hiring/promotion process of teaching staff reflective of the community served by the center. Perform other related duties as assigned from time to time.

Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education or a related field, with one or more years of experience teaching preschool children required. Must be EEC Director I or II qualified (based on program’s licensed capacity). Degree in related field requires a minimum of ten courses related to early childhood education that focus on child development, early childhood education and curriculum, early childhood teaching and assessment, psychology, family development, health and physical development, mathematics, science or children’s literature. Bilingual in a language spoken by families served by ABCD preferred. Must be able to engage in physical activities while attending to the needs of the center’s preschool children and/or while moving classroom equipment. Must be able to work sensitively and effectively with individuals of diverse educational, socio-economic and cultural backgrounds.
