The Prekindergarten Program is a new initiative with classrooms supported, in part, by the Massachusetts Preschool Expansion Grant (PEG) and the Jessie B. Cox Charitable Trust Fund. Through this program, children ages 3 and 4 will be exposed to a variety of learning tools to further enrich their early childhood education experience.
The Prekindergarten Teacher Assistant is responsible for assisting the Teacher and Lead Teacher with the care and education of the children in the Prekindergarten Program. This position assists in the day-to-day implementation of the Education Component objectives for the Building Blocks, Center on the Social and Emotional Foundations for Early Learners (CSEFEL), and Opening the World of Learning (OWL) teaching practices. The Prekindergarten Assistant Teacher develops activities and strategies to involve parents in the educational aspects of the program to increase their understanding of child development and enhance their role as the principal influence in their child’s education and development. Assists with the development and implementation of special events or projects related to the Prekindergarten Program. Record classroom activities and engage in ongoing staff development trainings. Perform other related duties as assigned from time to time.
Minimum of a high school diploma/GED, with up to twelve months of relevant experience working with preschool children required. Must have an active preschool Child Development Associate credential or matriculated in a degree program with 15 or more college credits towards a degree in Early Childhood or related field, including child growth and development. EEC preschool teacher certified preferred. Good interpersonal skills required. Must be able to maintain confidentiality and work in a professional manner. Bilingual in a language spoken by families served by ABCD preferred. Must be able to engage in physical activities while attending to the needs of the center’s children and/or moving classroom equipment. Must be able to work sensitively and effectively with individuals of diverse educational, socio-economic and cultural backgrounds.
